Kim Bailey’s Bio:
Some people remember their first kiss - well Kim Bailey remembers his first couscous, at a small gathering in the countryside on the outskirts of Dijon, France while attending undergraduate school at the University of Dijon.
Food and Entertaining has always been a passion for Kim. Whether it was spending time in his mom’s kitchen in South Tampa watching and learning techniques of a good cook, sitting at the feet of a master chef on the Via Veneto in Rome, Italy, or visiting the kitchens of incredible restaurants all around the world – food, cooking, creating, has been Kim’s life enjoyment.
Kim Bailey opened Bailey Catering in early 2002 providing upscale catering for weddings, corporate events, and private parties for as few as two, and as many as 1600; and in 2009 was selected to prepare dinner for the President of Liberia, Her Excellency Ellen Johnson-Sirlief.
“We built a solid reputation on using only the finest and freshest ingredients in the marketplace, using local produce, organic and sustainable meats and seafood when available”, said Bailey. “Our credo, ‘It’s About The Food’ says it all, Bailey continued.
With the success of his catering division, Kim opened Bailey’s Restaurant in Old Hyde Park Village right in the heart of South Tampa just three blocks from where he grew up – and on the same street he use to ride his bike and stop at the gas station for a NEHI Orange Soda and a Moon Pie. “That was good eaten then – and it still is now”, Bailey remembers fondly.
Bailey’s Restaurant has developed a cult following, for it is only opened three nights a week, Wednesday through Friday evenings – serving homemade “everything.” Bailey’s makes their own ice creams, preserves, desserts, stocks, soups, and has a reputation for serving the best (and freshest) seafood in town, and their Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes have been profiled in The Tampa Tribune and rival Maryland Crab Cakes. “We are not fussy, not formal, not fusion…just good home cookin’, Bailey likes to say.
While Bailey’s Restaurant serves mainly comfort food fare – Bailey Catering can prepare every type of food imaginable…from Gourmet French, Northern Italian, Lebanese, Greek, Authentic Spanish, Soul or Country, Indian or Cajun, Pacific Rim or Cuban, intricate delicacy or a special family recipe, you name the region of your desire, and they will tailor a menu that will satiate and sooth your palate.
Kim authored the successful parody of the South Beach Diet, entitled: “The North Beach Diet – How To Gain 10 Pounds In 2-Days,” and has appeared on numerous local and national and radio television shows.
In reading this bio, it is important to understand that everything has not been “perfect” for Kim Bailey. He has had his business and personal failures as well; and firmly believes that “often times one does not achieve great success without first falling flat on their face…and hard.” Accepting responsibility, and learning from our failures is what truly separates the successful from the mediocre. Kim has developed Proven Success Strategies specifically designed to help avoid many costly pitfalls of business.
Kim welcomes the opportunity to discuss the challenges that faced him, and has created an uplifting keynote entitled: “Chicken Little Was Wrong,” about his journey through darkness and financial ruin…told as only he can, with a mixture of candor, warmth, and yes, humor.
Kim is truly excited about joining the WWBA News Talk 820 team. FOODTALK will explore every aspect of food, from local and national chefs, restaurants, television personalities, cookbook authors, to the extreme of foods from around the globe. “While this is my first radio show, we will discuss food with gusto and humor – and we will have great fun!” says Bailey.
